The Milo Arm Chair and the Milo Bean Ottoman - Interview with Designer Marie Burgos
“Milo Chair” and “Milo bean” We love those fun and cute names for a chair + Ottoman. How did you choose the names?
We were looking for a name that’s reflected the personality of this curvy, comfortable chair and its fun ottoman. The Milo chair is fun, rounded, comfy and comes in many colors. Milo was the name that first came to mind. It happens to be the nickname of my son Miles! Our Milo chair had to be comfortable, colorful, fun and inviting… just like our Miles!
How was the design process of the Milo Chair and the Milo Bean Ottoman? What was the inspiration behind the design?
The chair and the ottoman did not happen a the same time and pace.
The Milo chair was one the chairs we were developing with curved legs. We were moving away from the straight lines and wanted to get a more hugging club type of shape.
It is about creating a comfortable experience for our client by balancing the Yin Yang on this chair. Combining straight lines and curves, hard surfaces such as the wood legs with soft plushes material, using dark wood and bringing in colors.
For this, the Milo Arm Chair features twin bent wood bases and legs in luxurious lacquer and varnished finishes which support a curvy hugging comfortable chair.
The Milo chair should is the chair you grab by the leather handle, pull to your perfect spot for anything from a conversation around a glass of old Martiniquan rum to fun time on the playstation.
Available in a wide range of plush fabrics!
As for the Milo bean after trying the first prototype we realized we could bring an ottoman to complete the experience. The design like combining the curves of two Milo chairs, but the handles stole the show and gave The Milo Bean ottoman its own personality.
The Milo Bean ottoman is a fun piece designed to complete the comfort of the Milo chair. It has leather accent handles for easy carrying. You can sit on it, lean against it, and carry it. This fun, colorful, curvy design may be the ultimate in portable seating.
Have you encountered any challenges during the process?
We had to go back to the drawing board a couple of time, I guess this is the normal road when you tackle such a project. We wanted it to have the right balance, the right pitch, the right curves and be really comfortable. In the end we achieved just that and are very pleased with our Milo collection.
