Admiration and envy

True, renovations can get messy, destructive and noisy but the end result will uplift your daily routine.  This incredible kitchen renovation, created by Maryland designer Kristin Peake, took this home from drab and dull to light, airy and breathtaking.

Undoubtedly, the most drastic improvement is the transformation provided by the white cabinetry and trim.  Immediately the space feels open and ethereal, offering a peaceful gathering zone.  Peake also took the families needs into account by generating several different seating arrangements such as the table in the bay window, high top chairs at the bar and a comfortable seating setup surrounding the fireplace.  A number of additions proved to support the needs of the residents; more storage in the island, rotating water spigot over the stove and farmhouse sink.

Simply put, this renovation provided a reinvention vested in the family’s needs.

Staircase to Heaven

Usually, a stair case is practical and only partially designed with wrought iron or even a wood banister.  But these staircase examples have stepped it up in the design department to fuse functionality with an artistic statement piece.

This DNA-like design requires a second glance to determine if its coming or going.

This rooms minimalistic style is topped off with an extreme metal staircase.

These wooden beauties seem a bit like an optical illusion.

A few brilliant examples of mixing practicality with style.

Grounded with style

The floor is another example of a canvas that is often ignored.  And as we move away from the age of carpet, it is becoming more important to spice up the ground we walk on.

These examples show how to punch up any room right were you walk.

This incredible design of octagons defined in creamy beige and tans adds another level to the already glamourous room.

This room is calming with a hint of romance, and the alternating width of the zig-zag adds a great focal point.

The hardwood floor is enhanced by the diamond pattern.  Rustic charm at its best.

Resembling a slate tile floor, this grey and white pattern radiates drama.

Magenta ceiling, clean white walls, minimal furnishing and an exquisite design on the floor.

Above and beyond

Its common to paint the walls, haul in furniture and decorate with knickknacks, but how often do we look up? The ceiling has been referred to as the fifth wall, and it’s just screaming for attention.

Designers are encouraging their clients to expand their horizons by including the ceiling in the design plans.  Adding a coat of a solid color will draw the eye upward and provide an additional point of focus in the room.  If you are feeling courageous, pick a bold color such as magenta or yellow, but remember to let the ceiling do the talking, and keep the remainder of the room subtle.

Painting the ceiling might just create a whole new world.

Serve dinner in style!

Say goodbye to formal chairs and awkwardly placed table legs. Dining rooms have been granted a major remodeling.

Over the years, the choices of dining room set styles, combinations and finishes has expanded drastically allowing homeowners to build the perfect nook for their munching needs. Whether serving the families favorite meal or mingling with guests at a dinner party, the dining room is the hub of the house.

This pine trestle table is modernized by the surrounding furniture and the luminous yellow wall color. Benches give the room an open feel while providing expandable seating without the need of a lengthy transformation.

The cozy look of a round table can often be diminished by the limited seating of four to six chairs. Expand the seating of a round table by stashing a love seat on one side.

The wood shaker table is offset with modern metal low back chairs and a high wingback sofa. Together the different lines and heights combine to bring about a beautiful dining area.
